How the Age of Enlightenment has Affected Our Society
I have seen a constant, but almost imperceptible (to most folks) change in our culture that is having very negative, long-range implications. America is moving away from God towards secular humanism, both in the government as well as in private life. This is more easily seen in younger people than old.
There is a reason for this. What we're seeing is the effects of the influence of the Enlightenment project, which was begun about 300 years ago as an attempt to form a society without God. It has infiltrated almost all levels of our school systems, from kindergarten to the universities. It's easier to see it in the universities, etc., especially in the humanities and arts, where a large number of college professors are atheistic humanists/socialists.
The Enlightenment project has three main premises which it promotes:
1. Secularism - that there is no God, or if there is a God, He doesn't care.
2. Moral Relativism - that there is no such thing as objective truth when it comes to morals, etc. Everything is left to the opinion of the individual.
3. Individualism - that each individual is his/her own final arbiter of truth, his/her own "god," if you will. And each individual has absolutely no responsibility toward anyone else, except as he/she consents. In other words, we are not our brother's keeper, even though deep down inside, we all know we are.
Those of us who are believers in Jesus Christ, especially Catholics, live in wonderful times. How can I say that after just listing the ills of our society, etc.?! Easy. We live in wonderful times because we're the ones who have the answers, the cure. The Enlightenment is going to fall on its face and fail sooner than later, and because we have the only game in town, we're going to be able to be there to pick up the pieces.
The most important thing, though, is that we know our faith ahead of time.We need to begin studying our faith now, since there may not be time when this knowledge will be most needed. So, how do we do that? An easy way is to listen to good, orthodox lectures, speeches by folks who know the faith. You can find many of them at Alabama Catholic Resources, a Catholic audio website that offers free downloads on a wide variety of topics by many well-known, well-respected Catholic speakers! So, don't wait. Get stared learning Christ's truths now!
God bless!

No Protestants on Supreme Court? Experts say it won’t really matter
It could well be that the U.S. Supreme Court, for the first time ever, will soon have no Protestant members – a gradual development that legal and religion scholars say has evaded widespread notice during the past five decades. Perhaps just as surprising: Few expect More >

What Good Are Morals If They Don’t Have Foundation?

Since the year 2002, the movie Time Changer (Five by Two Productions) has been provoking Christians to consider the place of morality without theology. In other words, is it adequate to teach how to act without a basis from Scripture? In the story, seminary professor Russell Carlisle presents a manuscript for approval by the staff. More >
